The US Copyright Office Sucks

 

If you’re any good at producing content —any kind of content— then you’ve probably heard about the US Copyright Office.  Well, I’m not here to tell you what it does, because —for that— you can buy a variety of books on Amazon and learn on your own.  But what I am going to tell you is to SAVE YOUR MONEY.

They just don’t work!  They suck at what they do!!!

I’ve been producing content for 22 years.  I produce video, audio, written materials, photography and online content in a variety of formats.

Like you, I learned that if you produce your original work of authorship —like they call it in the law— and you don’t register it with the US Copyright Office, then you won’t be able to seek monetary restitution for copyright infringement in a court of law.

In other words, if you don’t register no lawyer will take your case.

Great HDRs with Canon DSLRs

Cabo Rojo LighthouseLike many of my readers know, I’ve been a Canon shooter for over 25 years.  I started with an A1 SLR back in 1984 and I never looked back. Nowadays I shoot with a Canon 7d. I also have a 50D and an old XTi as backups.

Like many of you, I’ve been experimenting with HDR photography.  However, I’m not into the whole surreal thing at all.  Instead, I love to make my pictures so real that it feels like you’re looking out the window.  My idea of a great HDR is an image where the untrained eye will know that there’s something special about it, but he/she won’t know what it is!

My software of choice is Photomatix Pro combined with Photoshop CS5, a myriad of plugins —that I won’t even mention— and my inseparable Macintosh computer.  However, what I will mention is my latest toy: the Promote Control.  This —my friends— is the “secret sauce” that has really spread open the doors of HDR Photography ...

Who's Getting Hurt?

Copyright violations are out of control.  We see them everywhere.  Bootleg DVDs are sold like candy in front of everyone, with seemingly no consequence.  But there are consequences and people do get hurt.

The other day I was fiddling through YouTube and I ran into an Antipiracy PSA produced by the US Government.  I liked this particular ad because it’s blunt.  No frosting!  Just the way I like to write.

If you are a content producer like me you’ll probably be sensitive to the message on this ad.  And if you’re not, and you’ve copied other people’s work in the past, maybe you’ll understand the error of your ways.
